Step 1: Recruit a Few "Start-Up" People

Recruit yourself 2 to 5 responsible and trustworthy people to help you start the club.
Note: Too many people involved in this stage will slow decision making.

Step 2: Find a Teacher Advisor
-
Some schools requires an advisor to help your club.
-
Your ideal candidate is likely to be a member of the faculty who has:
-
A strong commitment to working with youth and is well respected among the students
-
Willing to attend during all future club meetings.

However, the advisors aren't responsible for hosting the club meetings. The president and vice president are the main people to run the club.

Step 3: Get Approval from Your School

Find out what requirements your high school has for starting a club. This is especially important if you want to receive school funding or resources such as meeting rooms and permission to hold your events on campus.

Put together a presentation that articulates the benefits of having an Edible Arts Club in your school.

Your school may also require you to have:

A club constitution

Club leadership positions

A club sponser

Step 4: Advertise

Some effective ways to recruit new members:

Take advantage of social media networks
-
Set up a booth at your school's club festival

Network with other clubs
-
Reach out to your personal connections

Create and post flyers around your school

Place an ad in your school's newspaper

Step 5: Hold the First Club Meeting

Speak with your chosen contacts from step 1 to set up the action plan for the club

Find out what interests you want to meet and brainstorm ideas

During

Collect contact information from all your mmembers

Discuss the code of conduct and/or safety guidelines (stoves and knives must've been played with!)

Announce when and where the next meeting will be held

Step 6: Keep in Touch with the Edible Arts Creators

Keep in touch with your teacher sponser to ensure a good working relationship and more support in the future.
